Kidnapping Penalties in Wisconsin

According to state law, a person commits the crime of kidnapping when he/she takes someone from one place to another without their consent, either by force, through the threat of force, or by deceit, and with the intent of keeping a victim secretly confined or imprisoned. In most cases, kidnapping is a Class C felony, which is punishable by a maximum prison sentence of 40 years and/or a fine of up to $100,000.

However, when an individual kidnaps someone in order to cause another to transfer property, assets, or money in order to obtain the release of the victim, or create a hostage situation, the crime is elevated to a Class B felony. This type of felony results in a maximum prison sentence of 60 years.
